Get Ready to Experience 'Pretty Woman' in a Whole New Way

If you were having a bad day, don't worry, because everything is about to get better. Why, do you ask? Oh, you know, just because the iconic romantic comedy Pretty Woman is being adapted into a Broadway musical! Pretty exciting, right? Well, it only gets better from here. The film, which originally starred Richard Gere as a man who falls in a love with a beautiful prostitute played by Julia Roberts, is being adapted by Jerry Mitchell. For those who aren't familiar with the director and choreographer's work, Mitchell helped bring both Legally Blonde and Kinky Boots to the stage.

The list of people collaborating on this musical adaptation of Pretty Woman gets even more impressive. Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance will create the original score Pretty Woman's stage adaptation, according to People. We've been singing along to "Summer of '69" forever, so, you know they're going to make some extremely catchy ear-worms for this musical. The original film's director Gary Marshall, though he's passed away, is reported to have worked on the musical's book with the original screenwriter J.F. Lawton.

The two lead roles, originated by Roberts and Gere, have already been cast. Samantha Barks will take on the lead role of Vivian for the musical adaptation. She'll be perfect for this role, just like she was as Éponine in the 2012 Les Misérables film. This will be the 26-year-old actress' Broadway debut. Tony winner Steve Kazee will be her co-lead as Edward Lewis. Unlike Barks, Kazee is a Broadway veteran.  He starred in the Broadway musical Once back in 2012.

Pretty Woman will open as a musical in the fall of 2018 in a Nederlander Theater yet to be announced. We're already counting down the days. Is it 2018 yet? No? Okay.
