Liam Payne is finally going home to be laid to rest. It's been several weeks since the former One Direction singer passed away, but his body was flown home from Argentina this week ahead of his upcoming funeral.

The New York Post reports that the release of Payne's body from Argentina was delayed until his toxicology tests were complete, and then Liam was finally taken home by his father, Geoff Payne.

A "large-scale" funeral is reportedly in the works to remember Liam, as a "close friend" of Payne's told MailOnline, "Liam's body is expected to be flown home any day now,' adding, 'Arrangements are in place for that now and once his body is back in Britain the next step will be to announce the funeral plan." Another source told the outlet, "Liam will have a very big send off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart. Liam was so loved by so many people, there will obviously be enormous demand and so the service will necessarily be a huge affair."

Payne was found dead at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina after falling from the balcony of his third floor room into the courtyard. According to CNN, a preliminary autopsy report shows that the former One Direction singer died from multiple injuries causing "internal and external hemorrhage." Drug paraphernalia was found in Liam's hotel room, and a toxicology report shows that "pink cocaine" was found in his system — a very dangerous drug cocktail.

Payne was just 31 years old, and leaves behind his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shares with ex Cheryl Cole.
