When spending all that money, we want to make sure what we’re buying is going to last, which is why choosing a dependable brand is so important. Some brands have better reputations when it comes to longer-lasting vehicles that break down less often, and that’s where Consumer Reports comes in.

  • They analyze hundreds of thousands of surveys from Consumer Reports members to find out about any issues people have had with their cars, trucks and SUVs.
  • The survey asks about 20 potential “problem areas,” including with engines, brakes and transmissions.
  • This year, no American car brands make the top 10 for reliability, but Buick comes in 11th.
  • The top six most reliable brands are all Japanese, two are German and two are South Korean.

  • According to Consumer Reports’ research, out of the seven Subaru models in the survey, the Forester and Impreza have well-above-average reliability score, while the Crosstrek, Legacy, Outback and Ascent all rate above average and average.
