Couples Are Turning Costco Runs Into Date Nights

For some folks, a trip to Costco is just another errand on their to-do list, but some couples are turning it into a date night and they’re bragging about it on social media. They don’t need a romantic restaurant, seeing a movie in the theater or going dancing at a club, they’re happy to stroll the aisles with the one they love, fill their cart and wrap it up with a hot dog and soda at the Costco food court.

The trend is taking off on social media, where users are sharing their take on Costco date nights. “Never in my life did I imagine that I would get so giddy over going shopping with the hubs,” one Redditor says. “Anybody else like this?”

  • “We literally call it our Costco date,” another comments. “She has the chicken bake and I have the hot dog, but only after we’ve spent $200 on I don’t know what.”
  • Even better? Another Reddit user shares that she calls it their “Kirkland’s Signature Date Night,” in a nod to the Costco house brand.
  • Of course, not everyone gets as excited about a date night at Costco, as one guy found out. “One night I told the wife I was going to take her out to a surprise dinner at an exclusive membership club,” he writes. “Wasn’t as funny as I thought it was, apparently.”
  • Someone else shares that they call it “going out to the Club” with their partner.
  • A few folks even had their Valentine’s Day date at Costco. “Store wasn't too busy, had a hot dog and shared a warm cookie,” they write. “Cheapest Valentine's Day! We're 30 and this feels like our new tradition for yearsssss to come.”
  • So, when is the best time for a Costco date? Some prefer it after dark, including one who shares, “It’s glorious because the store is always so empty on Friday nights.”
  • But others enjoy daytime visits, like one who comments, “My husband and I do this often for ‘day dates’ when the kids are in school and we have the day off.”
  • And it doesn’t always have to be the same old date at the warehouse. One user comments, “Wife and I went to the Costco business store for the first time today to mix it up, gotta keep it spicy.”
