Finding the right person to spend your life with can be challenging, but you have to know what you want in a relationship first. According to a new survey from “Newsweek” and Talker Research that looks into young Americans’ sex lives and their satisfaction with intimacy, one thing matters much more than anything else for millennials - good sex.
- The poll finds that among those ages 29 to 44, the quality of sex is the most important factor (86%), beating out things like having similar hobbies (72%) or similar taste in TV shows (60%).
- Millennials care about having a satisfying sex life much more than having similar lifestyles (39%) or sharing political views (324%) with a partner.
Certified sex educator Emma Hewitt says millennials value good sex more than anything else in a relationship because they’re done having “average or just OK sex.” While she doesn’t think we should only focus on good sex in a relationship, she points out that communication can make a big difference with satisfaction in the bedroom and beyond.
"Good sex is often the result of great communication," Hewitt explains. "If you can talk openly and effectively about sex, you should be able to do the same about other elements of your relationship." She also says that good sex can have a positive trickle-down effect on the relationship as a whole, and can result in “mutual respect, increased intimacy, more connection, and more fun, play and pleasure in all aspects of the relationship.”
