The Top Things Grossing Out Guests In Your Home

Some people don’t seem to care about the dust bunnies in the corners of their home and don’t feel the need to panic clean before company comes over and it shows. While we all suspect that our house guests are judging us for how messy our place is, a recent Reddit thread highlights the things they’re most grossed out by.

It asks, “What are things you notice when visiting others’ homes that make you feel they’re unclean?” These are the things we may want to work on before anyone comes over again:

  • “They (people) are sitting on the toilet and most likely inspecting what is directly in front of them … and then the rest of your bathroom. Keep it clean.”
  • “The bathroom mirror. Splatters all over the mirror makes me feel ick.”
  • “Dust accumulated on the top of the toilet and air vents.”
  • “As a tall person, I notice dust on top of people’s refrigerators more than the average person!”
  • “Crumbs, dirt, and any filth on the floors. If it’s carpet, dust around the edges near baseboards.”
  • “When my socks stick to the kitchen floor.”
  • “Door handles and light switches. If they are really dirty, it also tells me something about how often they wash their hands.”
  • “When the home has a bad smell, dirty walls clutter everywhere, dust, cobwebs.”
  • “Things to keep clean that people forget about are ceiling fans/vents, blinds, tops of shower edges or shower rod, baseboards, light switches, and doors. The kitchen hood is a big, greasy afterthought to many.”
  • “If I don’t have to remove my shoes in a house I know it’s way more dirty than it looks.”
  • “If the bathroom or kitchen hand towel looks/smells like an old musty rag that’s been used for ages without washing it’s a gross sign for me.”
  • “A disgustingly dirty kitchen sink. If you can’t be bothered to clean the bowl at least once a week please don’t invite people over. If you can’t at least run your disposal so old food isn’t sitting in the sink, please do not invite people over.”
