*LIST* Zillow Reveals Features That Boost A Home’s Sales Price

Everyone wants to get the best deal possible when buying a home, but new research from Zillow finds home buyers are willing to pay more for homes with features like statement finishes and natural materials.

One of the biggest surprises in the real estate site’s latest report is that the farmhouse aesthetic is losing its appeal, while “organic modernism” is becoming more popular. So, what is that exactly? The style is all about sophisticated finishes, like soapstone countertops, white oak floors and Venetian plaster walls and according to Zillow, homes that have these designs can add around $12,500 to a typical U.S. home’s sale price.

  • The report finds that quartz, which was the preferred countertop material for years, has been replaced by soapstone as the material of choice.
  • Wet rooms are also in demand. These fully waterproofed spaces for showering and bathing are especially popular for people with kids or those who struggle with mobility issues.
  • Optimized outdoor spaces are another top feature, with outdoor showers, kitchens and bluestone patios all helping to boost a home’s sale price.
