How To Keep Your Pet Safe This Summer

Outdoor activities may be fun in the summer for humans, but they really aren’t for dogs. While a little time outside is fine, extended periods can be dangerous, especially if they have fur. Here are some ways, according to experts weighing in, that you can keep your fur babies safe this summer:

  • Make sure they have some shade to lay in, like from an umbrella or awning
  • Spray them with a water hose, and or use kiddy pools to let them play in
  • Give them plenty of water
  • Never keep your pet in a hot car
  • Socialize your dog with other dogs you know. The dog park may not be the best place to go
  • Protect your pet against fleas, ticks, and mosquitos
  • Don’t go on long walks with your dog if the temp is above 77. It can lead to heatstroke
  • Avoid asphalt when walking with your dog. Their paws will burn quickly
  • Avoid toxic plants
  • Just as with humans, toxic algae or bacteria found in lakes, ponds, and creeks can make them ill or worse
  • Make sure you have your pet microchipped and even put an airtag on them when outside
