Ever wonder what everyone else is ordering from DoorDash? Thanks to their latest Delivery Trends Report, we get a good idea. The annual report offers a peek into the top dining and delivery trends and what Americans are ordering this year.
- Part of the information comes from a survey of 1,504 U.S. adults around the country and DoorDash also analyzes data from their site to see how food and alcohol orders have changed from year to year.
- "Consumers are ordering to satisfy cravings, join cultural moments, and express their lifestyle – whether that’s indulging in dessert, exploring new health rituals, or trusting tech to inspire their next meal,” says Cristen Milliner, Consumer Trends Expert at DoorDash.
The DoorDash Delivery Trends Report reveals:
- An end to the daily “what’s for dinner” dilemma is within reach - With AI getting more mainstream, 52% of diners say they’re comfortable with taking recommendations from restaurants or apps based on previous orders.
- But no one wants to get rid of the chef just yet - Only 15% say they fully trust AI to prepare a restaurant meal, but men are twice as likely as women to be fine with robotic chefs.
- Nearly all consumers (98%) admit they’ve ordered delivery to satisfy a craving.
- One in five say they’re ordering restaurant delivery more often this year.
- Guilty pleasure foods differ by generation - While Gen Z and millennials prefer fast food, Gen X is loyal to pizza and baby boomers tend to go for dessert with cake and ice cream.
- Seeing a restaurant item go viral on social media has led three-quarters (74%) of Gen Z and 69% of millennials to order it.
- Over a third (35%) admit they’ve ordered food delivery twice in a single day and 22% have even gone back for a third order in 24 hours.
- Alcohol delivery is on the rise, as 42% say they’ve ordered alcohol for delivery more often this year than last.
- But mindful drinking is in, with 80% of those who ordered alcohol getting low- or non-alcoholic beverages in the last six months. That’s more than double 2024’s total.
- DoorDash orders with non-alcoholic beer were up 82% from 2023 to 2024.
- Doing Dry January differently - Orders with hemp THC beverages and edibles increased by 19% and 15% between December 2024 and January 2025.
