It’s rare for a family to stay put in one place forever, as research shows the average American will move an average of 11.7 times over their lifetime. Some families relocate for new opportunities or a lower cost of living, and some places are definitely better for raising kids than others. And a new report from WalletHub reveals where they are.
- They’ve just come out with their ranking of the Best and Worst Places to Raise a Family.
- They compared 182 cities across the country on 45 factors related to family dynamics, including the quality of schools and health care systems, the cost of housing, walkability and even the number of playgrounds in the area.
- This year, the best place to raise a family is Fremont, California, in large part thanks to economic factors.
- The city has one of the highest median family incomes in the U.S. and has the third-lowest share of families getting food stamps.
- Fremont is number one in the socioeconomics category, number two for education and child care and is fourth for health and safety, but it’s 86th for family fun.
- As for the worst place to raise a family, Memphis, Tennessee, earns that title this year.
- It’s followed by Detroit, Michigan, then Cleveland, Ohio.
