Sometimes it’s hard to be assertive. We feel like we’re being rude or mean, but there are times where we have to hold the line. Here are some phrases that are assertive but don’t come across as abrasive:
- "I want us to understand each other better, so I’d like to share that I prefer [XYZ]."
- "I hear what you’re saying, and I respectfully disagree."
- "I never want to challenge you, and I want to be authentic with you. So, I’d like to ask for [XYZ]."
- "I need more time to think about that."
- "I'm not available for that."
- "No."
- "Let me stop you there."
