Americans Love A Good Sauce

Are you a sauce person? Some people are really into sauces, according to a new survey, which finds that 79% consider themselves proud sauce lovers. And 78% take their sauce so seriously they believe it has the power to make or break a meal.

The poll of 2-thousand Americans also reveals:

  • Two-thirds of respondents have chosen a meal specifically to have the sauce they were craving.
  • According to those surveyed, sauce always belongs on some foods, like french fries (73%), chicken nuggets (67%) and hot dogs (61%).
  • There are even foods people flat out won’t eat without sauce, including chicken wings (59%), cheeseburgers (55%) and tacos (53%).
  • While other foods are thought of as just a vehicle to eat sauce, like fries (68%), chicken nuggets (66%) and wings (60%).
  • The top choice for wings is ranch (27%), but some do prefer barbecue sauce (27%).
  • When it comes to nuggets, barbecue sauce is the favorite (30%), followed by ranch (30%) and honey mustard (25%).
  • Marinara is the most popular choice for mozzarella sticks (47%), but some like them with ranch (23%) or ketchup (10%).
  • The average person has eight different kinds of sauce in their fridge right now.
  • Overall, 61% of respondents call themselves “sauce people,” and they’re more likely to be Type A personalities and adventure-seekers.
  • Those who like their food sauceless tend to be Type B personalities who are less impulsive.
  • While some foods are made to go with certain sauces, like fries and ketchup, Americans confess to some weird sauce combos, like Worcestershire sauce on macaroni, pita bread with honey mustard and ranch in ramen noodles.
  • Other sauce lovers enjoy fries with tartar sauce, scrambled eggs with barbecue sauce and pickles with buffalo sauce.
