Seven In 10 Parents Worry About Children's Screen Time

Parents say phones are squeezing family time. A survey of 2,000 U.K. moms and dads with kids aged 11-17 found 70-percent worry about their children’s screen habits, but it’s not just the kids; 71-percent say they scroll too much themselves. Busy schedules, device use, and social media top the list of factors that make quality time tough, leaving 68-percent feeling less connected to their kids. Nearly one-quarter of the children admit they know more about influencers than their parents, and 85-percent of families fear that disconnect limits big-issue talks.

There are ways to fight it, though. Sixty-nine-percent think a vacation together can reset the family’s relationships. EasyJet commissioned the poll to launch “Airplane Mode,” a card game designed by parenting expert Tanith Carey and TV host Katie Piper to spark conversation on trips; tips include asking open questions and starting holidays with shared activities so memories, not memes, take center stage.
