Despite all the talk we hear about being dehydrated, the average American drinks a lot of water every day. We’re talking 57.5-ounces daily, which is almost twice as much as the 33.8-ounces Europeans average. While we love to fill our Stanleys and sip away, not everyone drinks from a cup, and newly released data from YouGov shows more than half (52%) of U.S. adults drink bottled water on a weekly basis.
YouGov’s latest drink ratings reveal there’s a clear winner when it comes to the brand Americans reach for most.
- According to their research, the top soda brand in the country is Coca-Cola, with Pepsi coming in second, followed by Sprite, Canada Dry and Dr Pepper.
- When it comes to water brands, one owned by Pepsi is the top choice.
- Aquafina is the bottled water brand people prefer overall, with 21% saying it’s their “most considered brand.”
- Smartwater, owned by Coca-Cola, is number two (19%), followed by Vitamin Water, also owned by Coca-Cola, (16%).
- But preferences differ by gender and generation. For 31% of Gen Z, it’s Aquafina, the highest of any generation for any water brand, while Millennials are more likely to reach for LaCroix (27%).
- Women tend to go for Smartwater (21%), while men rank it second (16%).
- The report also uncovers some interesting tidbits, including that “Weekly sparkling water drinkers are most likely to have completed a post-grad or 4-year degree,” and “Weekly sparkling water drinkers are most likely to earn over $100-thousand.”
