Would you love to be happier and healthier, but don’t want to spend hours sweating in the gym? Adding some ultra-low intensity movement can boost your fitness level and your quality of life. We’re talking super-low-effort exercise that’s just a step above total inactivity and it’s called zone zero movement.
Zone training structures workouts based on how high your heart rate gets and lower means slower and less intense. So zone zero is as low as it goes, where your heart rate never goes above half its max level. This training is a kind of “active rest,” stuff so easy it can be done accidentally, but it still comes with benefits like reducing stress, supporting mental clarity, helping to improve circulation, and aiding digestion.
Zone zero movement is a great way to get people who find the idea of a full-on workout too much up and moving and it can include:
- Stretching at your desk
- Slow walking
- Yoga
- Gentle cycling
- And even tidying, cooking and shopping.
Unfortunately, zone zero training doesn’t replace the 75-minutes of high-intensity or 150-minutes of moderate-intensity activity current health guidelines recommend we get every week. But it is better than no activity at all, and it could be a good starting point for getting off the couch and moving.
