Trying something new with your hair can be stressful, especially when there are scissors involved. Women may be more used to that feeling as they settle down in the salon chair, but it turns out, they’re not the only ones who get haircut anxiety.
According to a new survey of 2-thousand U.S. men, 21% of men feel nervous before asking their barber or stylist for a new cut.
- Another 23% admit they’ve been afraid to ask for specific haircuts in the past, even when they really wanted it.
- As a result, 17% say they ended up asking for a more “watered down” version of the cut they actually wanted.
- Showing the stylist a reference photo has helped 36% get what they wanted and 88% who did say the stylist nailed it and perfectly matched their haircut to the photo.
- More than half the guys polled (57%) have a specific person they trust with their hair and 74% believe that trust has a big impact on the cut they end up with.
- For 32%, they feel so close to their stylist, they consider them “practically family”, and another 16% consider barber or stylist to be a close friend.
- Men say their barbers have helped them learn what styles fit their hair type (41%), which ones fit their face shape (40%) and how often to get a haircut (37%).
- The average guy gets a haircut 10 times a year and has had the same style for seven years.
