How much money would you need to make in order to be happy? According to a new survey, the average American thinks the perfect salary is $74-thousand a year. But 19% say they’d need to make more than six figures to enjoy their lifestyle.
The poll asks 2-thousand U.S. adults about their opinions on the workforce and finds:
- Half say the amount they currently make isn’t enough to support their lifestyle and 24% admit they’re unhappy with their income.
- If they did start bringing in extra income, they’d be practical with the money, putting it in their savings or investment accounts (46%), using it to pay off bills (42%), or for groceries (35%).
- More than two-thirds (69%) of those surveyed are currently looking for ways to make extra money.
- Some are taking action, including 26% who’ve been job searching within the past three months.
- Job seekers share that they want more than just a bigger salary, they hope to get better benefits (28%), better work-life balance (20%) and more flexibility (20%) with a new position.
- Nearly a third (29%) of all respondents already have a side hustle and another 32% are interested in starting one.
- Over half (52%) say in this economy, starting a small business or side hustle may be better than looking for a traditional full-time job.
- Six in 10 respondents who aren’t business owners now wish they could start one inspired by their passions and interests, including “quilting,” “doing voice-overs” and “helping people release their emotional baggage.”
- If it was their only source of income, 57% of those with a passion say they’d love getting paid for it.
