Study: What Women Really Want In The Early Stage Of Dating

Hearing “I love you” for the first time may make some people swoon, but if you really want to win a woman over, a new study suggests you may want to do the dishes instead. Researchers found that in the early stages of dating, women actually prefer small acts of service, like cooking dinner or helping with chores, over verbal declarations of affection, like “I’m here for you” or “I miss you.”

The study involved more than 500 adults in China and used a series of experiments to see how people responded to “sweet talk” compared to “sweet actions.” And it turns out, women are all about the action, at least when it comes to guys rolling up their sleeves to help out. Researchers found that women leaned into actions that showed dependability from their love interest, especially at the beginning of a relationship.

Beyond physical traits, like jobs, appearance and height, which people look for on dating apps, the study finds that women are looking for signs someone is dependable and “willing to invest in the relationship.” They also see “action-oriented” partners as warmer and more trustworthy. So, what about men? They’re reportedly keeping an eye out for “immediate emotional or sexual interest.” Guys also didn’t show a strong preference for either “sweet talk” or “sweet actions,” researchers found.
