Want to make someone think you’re basically a genius? Reddit has some suggestions. A recent post on AskReddit asks, “What skill makes people instantly assume you’re way smarter than you actually are?” More than 37-hundred responses have come in with easy ways to boost your brilliance - or at least seem to, and these are some of the best.
- "Speaking calmly while everyone else is freaking out. Instant 'genius' badge unlocked."
- "Learning a few words in a few different languages."
- "People assume that because I write poetry, I’m hella emotionally intelligent. I write poetry to keep me from crashing out and doing something crazy."
- "I'm a young woman who is not afraid of a DIY project. People are often surprised when I can mount a TV, install a ceiling fan, etc."
- "The ability to debate and exchange in a civil discourse without resorting to personal insults."

- "Knowing the rules of Chess. 'Whoa, you must be smart!' they say, as I hang an M1."
- "One sign of intelligence is the ability to look up things you don’t know, read about them, and understand them. Have enough confidence in your ability to do that instead of always asking someone else exactly what to do."
- "Typing fast without looking at the keyboard."
- "Being able to build computers. It's actually very simple, but a lot of people don't know that."
- "The fact that I have basic geography knowledge makes people think I am smart. I've shocked people by being able to find longitude and latitude on maps."
- "Grammar. It's the difference between knowing your sh*t, and knowing you're sh*t."
- "Keeping up with current events and what's going on in the finance world."
- "Having a good walk or good posture."
- "Basic IT skills."
- "I've managed to fool damn near every human being I've ever met into thinking I'm a genius solely because I have a good memory."
