The Emmy’s were last night! The show was hosted by Nate Bargatze. The show was full of big wins and big moments. “The Pitt” won the Emmy for Best Drama…as well as a bunch of other awards. “The Studio,” meanwhile, won the Emmy For Outstanding Comedy Series...and actually became the most awarded comedy ever at the Emmys with 13 wins.
Noah Wyle won for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for “The Pitt,” while Britt Lower won for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for “Severance." Jean Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series, and Seth Rogen won Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series (his first acting Emmy win).
Check out the Big Moments and Award Winners below.
The Big Moments:
- Nate Bargatze opened the Emmys with a sketch with “Saturday Night Live” stars Bowen Yang, Mikey Day and James Austin Johnson, that closely resembled his popular “Washington’s Dream” sketch from the series. This time he played Philo T. Farnsworth, the inventor of TV. Some jokes included calling streaming “a new way for companies to lose money,” and that “there will be awards for all types of shows. Gripping dramas, like ‘The Pitt,’ a heartbreaking look at the emotional toll of trauma…And laugh-out-loud comedies like 'The Bear,' a heartbreaking look at the emotional toll of trauma.”
- Then in his monologue, Bargatze shared that he would be donating $100-thousand to the Boys & Girls Club of America, but for every second over 45 seconds that an Emmy winner went over in their speech, $1-thousand will be deducted from the donation.
- Stephen Colbert, whose show was recently cancelled by CBS, was met with a standing ovation when he came out to present the first award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He joked “now that I have your attention…is anyone hiring?” His show, “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” wound up winning for Outstanding Talk Series later in the night.
- “Gilmore Girls” stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel presented the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series together in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary. “25 years ago, a show called ‘Gilmore Girls’ premiered, and apparently took the season of fall hostage,” Graham joked.
- A planned “Grey’s Anatomy” reunion with Jesse Williams and Eric Dane fell through, as Dane reportedly pulled out at the last minute. It would have been Dane’s first major awards show appearance since he revealed his ALS diagnosis in April. Williams presented the Drama Series Directing award solo, without mentioning the show.
- “The Studio” made history, breaking the all-time record for most wins for a comedy series in a single year, with 13 wins (nine at the Creative Arts Emmys and four tonight). It beat out the previous record holder, “The Bear.”
- Jean Smart just kept winning, grabbing her fourth Emmy for her role of Deborah Vance in ”Hacks.”
- The Emmys celebrated the 40th anniversary of “The Golden Girls.” Reba McEntire and Little Big Town duo Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman performed the show’s theme song “Thank You for Being a Friend.”
- “Adolescence’s” Owen Cooper, who is 15-years-old, became the youngest male to ever win an acting award at the Emmys. He won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie.
- Tramell Tillman became the first Black man ever to win the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, for his role in "Severance."
- Jeff Probst brought “Survivor’s” Tribal Council to the stage while presenting Scripted Variety Series, joking that “there is no immunity to protect” nominees John Oliver and Lorne Michaels. After the “votes” were read, Oliver won for “Last Week Tonight.” Probst also teased “Survivor’s” upcoming 50th season, featuring 24 players.
- “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” won Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Lorne Michaels, the show’s longtime executive producer, accepted the award, joking “I won this award for the first time 50 years in 1976. I was younger and had a lot of dreams about what would happen in my life. Not one of those dreams was me doing the same show for the next 50 years.”
- This year’s “In Memoriam” segment featured Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson performing “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” John Amos, Quincy Jones, David Lynch, Ozzy Osbourne, Maggie Smith, Michelle Trachtenberg, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and more were honored.
